I still don’t see why the greeks would let Marlo take over the connect after working with Joe for all those years who’s been low key and dependable.

@lildwayne21 He’s also way more connected. But I agree no Marlo or Avon, and Stringer and Prop Joe would sling dope forever with their product over turf policy.

@Killoea Yeah it was Vinson who said that, after the Barksdale’s failed hit attempt on Marlo’s crew cost them two lives. He said “prison and graveyards are full of young men who wore the crown”, to which Marlo replied “the point is they wore the crown, now it’s my turn”.
That line pretty much showed his motive. David Simon said afterwards that despite the money and freedom, to Marlo, not being able to rule the street is his way of being punished.

@Antrizzle2009 All of the dealers on this show were lucky. There were several times in season 3 where the detail just barely missed figuring out where Avon was. In season 1, if Wallace would have been located and kept alive, Stringer would have fallen then. That’s what made this show so good. The dealers and to a certain extent the cops and politicians were good at what they did, but they were also very lucky. Just like in real life.

The Greek’s in the end outlast Prop Joe, Avon, Stringer, and Marlo. The Greeks had a regular cafe and use that as their front. Instead of being out there. Plus the Police could not figure them out period. That why they kept there distance from Prop Joe and Marlo.

is that your philosophy when you are slinging crack rock on street corners?

@BakedOmlas greeks didnt give approval for marlo to kill prop joe Marlo did that on his own cuz Joe was standing in the way of him taking over the connect, and he tried to frame Omar for Prop Joe killing so the Co-op wouldnt try to all team up and war wit him. Marlo had to take out Joe if he wanted to be king of the drug game period instead of just the streets

@Antrizzle2009 , Marlo was lucky in that the Baltimore PD, if they knew that Marlo was a worse public enemy then the Barksdales they would have taken down Marlo first. Look at how close they were to dismantling his entire operation in season 4 until they pulled the Major Crimes unit off Marlo? They had him in their sights, they were just days away from taking him down until they more or less sacked the entire unit. Marlo was lucky that Commissioner Burrell and Rawls were there.

@XChupacabras I agree with you about the Season 3 ending. Had Slim Charles made that call to Avon just a tad earlier, he had the drop on Marlo. In season 4 tho, who was gonna get him? He was running west baltimore at tha point and none of them eastside dudes had the muscle to fuck with him. Omar ain’t really give him problems till season 5.
XChupacabras says... on 30-07-2010
@Antrizzle2009 , I”m saying he was luckier then he was good because when you look at how things just happened to fall, it was like standing in the right place and right time. Without luck, he would have never survived season 3 at all; and would have been taken down early in S4.
Antrizzle2009 says... on 30-07-2010
@XChupacabras How you figure that? You know how often drug kingpins get out of the game scot free? Almost never. Guys at that level almost always wind up in two places at some point: the pen or the morgue. This guy got away with all his money. He had a kick ass lawyer, that ain’t luck. Besides, it took the cops doing an illegal wiretap to nail him in the end.

The Greek might have been the smartest, but Marlo even gave him chills. He stepped in and reviled himself, because he knew Marlo wouldn’t go away, and a war could happen. Though Marlo might lose in the end, War is bad for business, and the Greeks are about business.

@Antrizzle2009 ,fact is Marlo was a fool and was luckier then he was good.

@suaveG216 He walked away with much more than 10 million. that was simply how much he sold the connect for. Remember, Levy set it up where he got to keep all his assets and previously made money as well so there’s no telling how much Marlo walked away with.
Antrizzle2009 says... on 30-07-2010
@XChupacabras that’s a great point. Plus Marlo had higher ambitions. He would have bought much more product than Joe did. Kind of reminds me of Scarface and how Tony wanted the world where as Frank just wanted to keep things as they were.

i dont really understrand why the greeks gave Marlo approval to kill Prop Joe meanwhile they been worried about staying behind the curtain at the whole time.

The Greek might be Armenian, then again it’s entirely plausible he’s a Cypriot (both are consistent with his dislike of Turks, his claim not to be Greek; the latter more likely in light of his operating in Greek, the former in light of his connections with Russia). We don’t know.

Attention-seeking psychopath? No way…. he just wanted to wear the crown. I can remember a line where someone (I think it was prop joe) warning Marlo about how the police take down the drug kingpins wearing the crown…. to which marlo responded “That don’t matter cause they wore it.”

@ojonesjr , Joe was not dead yet when the Greek all but assures Marlo that he has his insurance should anything happen to Joe.
That’ s my two cents, that Vondas was against doing anything to Joe, on the grounds that he wanted things to continue under Joe, where all was done so efficiently.
And my two cents is that the Greek knew that, and wanted a little turmoil to raise prices.

@XChupacabras That makes absolutely no sense. Why would somebody as low key as the Greek want somebody that brings attention to them. They only ok’d Marlo because Joe was dead, and he was the only other person that knew who they were. That’s it! Not some dumb reasoning that he did it to jack up future prices
