Today, the Energy and Commerce Subcommittee on Oversight and Investigations held a hearing entitled “Terminations of Individual Health Policies by Insurance Companies.” The hearing examined the practice of “post-claims underwriting,” which occurs when insurance companies cancel individual health insurance policies after providers submit claims for medical services rendered. The Committee conducted an investigation into the practice of health insurance rescission, and the results were alarming. Over the past five years, almost 20000 individual insurance policyholders have had their policies rescinded by the three insurance companies who testified today: Assurant, unitedhealth Group, and wellpoint.

i would love to see one of them on the street…we cal talk all about health care!
American people are walking around in a coma w/ ipods blasting in their ears. They are not interested in health insurance because they will never get sick. They are in a fantasy bubble. Get smart, read about government and what’s going to affect them.
Yes, and you can count on that being the case for most massive corporations. Ruthless and Heartless, the bottom line is all that counts to these people - it was a mistake to make corporations entities
They’re not in the health insurance business for our health — just our money.
And people quiver in fear over the possibility that the government may somehow stand in between them and their doctors one day… well, THESE cold heartless insurance bastards right here already stand between us and our doctors, and will continue to do so until health care is reformed.
hang with a banker and begin acting like one
Because private insurance are giants and the only giant we have to beat them is our government. That is why we need the government to regulate care so the giants will be forced to follow ethics for once. As for Medicaid, they do a bang up job at only 2-3% overhead, 25% better than private insurance. It is just taxes are slack at the moment why we are in such a deficit, and it did not begin with this administration either.
They are sociopaths..pure and simple.
These are truly indifferent and cold people.
The people testifying are all full of shit. They only reason they don’t collect all the medical records is not because of costs or delay in processing the application. They to collect as many premiums from you as possible before using this recision process. It’s all a numbers and probability game. That’s why it can’t be left in the hands of for profit companies.
I want every health insurance CEO to die a painful death.
4:47 wow
We have to get more out of office. Donate to the campaigns and lets get obstruction out of office! If you can’t change the game, change the players!!!!
OMG! That’s how I describe them to people all the time!!!!! I’m so glad to see that others see this clearly!!!!!
Just remind me of the Gov’s Quote in Blazing Saddles: “Gentlemen- We must Protect our Phoney-Baloney Jobs!”
Greed, Easy Money, Destroy America Even MORE. Predatory, LAZY, Hypocrites at Work. Bring Back the Manufacturing Base and let these Good-for-Nothing FUCKS experience what the COMMON Man lives. Tax the Cheap Imports and Take Care of the COMMONS.
fuck all greedy, right-wing politicans and their coporate masters– that’s all of the GOP and 90% of the Dems. the fact that good, affordable universal coverage in this country is actively resisted is ludicrous.
Email yr congress:

No Mandated Insurers
No Cooperatives
YES to a robust strong fully funded public option
Health Care in the House of Representatives & the Senate.
P.S. Don’t cry for me Argentina, Mike Pence…now there’s a theme song for the RNC.
You are correct, because hospitals and doctors are afraid of being sued by emotional family members. We need to let people live/die with dignity. Living wills are a must today. Then a patient can decide at what age to stop excessive care. Those who can afford may want to live as long as possible by any means, but it would be by self choice.
I don’t believe there are limits on punitive awards but there aren’t precedents for ungodly amounts. It tends to be in the hundreds of thousands rather than the hundreds of millions.
But as I noted, damages are limited because the national health care system takes care of the victims anyway. I’m not sure tort reform needs to be such a point of contention because it would take care of itself.
LIke I pointed out …”albermarle”… you’re an absolute neanderthal moron. You just reaffirmed my contention.
Sorry if I heard your feeling. I understand that in-breeding will do that to you and it’s not your fault. So don’t blame yourself.
Turn in your voter registration card and explain to them that you’re too dumb to vote. Believe me … you’re a republican … they’ll understand.
Good luck.
What are you? An uneducated high school dropout? How can you expect any of your moronic comments to be taken seriously ??
Got to change the bio you have on your channel. With comments like this you show yourself to be a total fraud.Congratulations on your hi I.Q.Forgive me for calling you a complete liar.
Silly brainwashed liberal!
Typical liberal! ATTACK!!! Oh,the emperor has no clothes.
Yep, pretty damn fucked up. BTW, torts are a big problem mostly because the way they force (or impel) health care providers to practice medicine and give care with the idea that they may be sued constantly in the back of their minds. I have argued that a single payer would have to be paired with tort reform. Does Canada have limits on punitive awards for “malpractice”?
Boy, the American system is more fucked up than I even knew. Thanks all the same but when I’m 97, I want some rationing and I think most intelligent people would.
There’s a great hullabaloo in the States about tort reform. What most people there don’t understand is that single payer resolves much of that problem because you don’t need a court award for future care because health care is provided for unfortunate victims. Lawsuits are an very minor problem in ’socialistic’ countries.
